Sad. Still, trying to mod an F-104 into a jet car seems a bit sketchy to me.

Anybody in the history of speed records/record attempts have/had sketchy machines.

True.

Its not a terrible place to start in that your powertrain installation and a lot of your aerodynamics are already handled. It’s a head start to having a theoretically super sonic capable car as was the original goal of this car in the early 2000s.

I congratulate her. She went chasing a dream, trying to achieve a goal. Something most of us will never do. I do feel her loss though. What she has done in the industry for women is amazing. She had her faults, but was genuinely a great person. I’ve met her twice, and the way her eyes lit up when talking shop was mesmerizing. She was a beautiful person, with a beautiful soul and truly wanted to make a difference, and she did . God speed :(

All true, but the F-104 wasn’t a particularly great fighter in the first place. Just ask Erich Hartmann . And it was never designed to go supersonic at ground level. I am not an engineer in any way, but it seems like it would be very likely to swap ends or be top heavy and roll like crazy. There’s no info yet on the crash, so we don’t know what happened.

There’s only ever been one vehicle designed with knowledge of what supersonic speeds at ground level actually entail, and that’s the Bloodhound SSC. And even that’s only based off 2 supersonic passes and educated guesses.

When you look at the history of thrust based land speed record cars a lot of them follow the basic design of a long skinny body with outrigger wheels at the rear. It’s a design concept that has be proven deep into the 600mph range. I see nothing here that screams bad idea compared to the cars that have come before.

Thanks. I admit, it’s not an area that I know much about.

Damn ... how am I going to learn how to do DIY repairs on my vehicles now? RIP she was a tough broad.
